William V. Flores

William V. Flores

Dr. William V. Flores is professor of Political Science. He served as President of the University of Houston-Downtown with 14,500 students (39% Latino and 29% African American). He previously served as Deputy Secretary for the New Mexico Higher Education Department and, prior to that as Executive Vice President and Provost of New Mexico State University. He was also Dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Cal State Northridge. He increased enrollments, retention rates, and graduation rates at several institutions and, as a consultant, has assisted other institutions to develop strategies to increase enrollments, graduation rates, develop new academic programs, expand online programs, and increase revenue streams. He has served as an instructor or administrator at public, private, and religious institutions.

Flores has served on the President’s Trust of the Association of American Colleges and Universities, the Academic Council of the American Association of Public and Land Grant Universities, and as chair of the Governing Board of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities. He created and for three years chaired the Higher Education Learning Path for Points of Light and as a member of the Council of College and University Presidents of the Kettering Foundation. He is co-editor of Latino Cultural Citizenship and Democracy, Civic Engagement, and Citizenship in Higher Education: Reclaiming Our Civic Purpose (forthcoming Spring 2019).
